Trump Launches "Genesis Mission": A National AI Initiative to Accelerate Scientific Breakthroughs and Secure US Technology Leadership

President Trump's executive order establishes the Genesis Mission, a national AI initiative comparable to the Manhattan Project, creating an integrated platform combining supercomputing resources and federal datasets to accelerate scientific breakthroughs across multiple domains while countering China's technological advances and preventing fragmented state-level AI regulations.

Trump Signs Order To Launch Genesis Mission To Speed Up AI-Driven Research

The White House is seeking methods to prevent US states from implementing independent AI regulations while advancing national artificial intelligence initiatives.

United States:

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order establishing the "Genesis Mission," a national initiative designed to leverage AI for scientific advancements. The President compared this initiative's significance to the Manhattan Project that developed the atomic bomb during World War II.

This initiative represents a key component of the Trump administration's strategy to maintain competitive advantage over China in artificial intelligence development through minimal regulatory approaches, aiming to solidify US leadership in this rapidly expanding field.

In addition to launching the Genesis Mission, the White House is exploring legal mechanisms to prevent individual states from creating their own AI regulatory frameworks, with warnings that federal funding could be withheld from states that proceed with independent regulations.

The executive order directs the Department of Energy to construct an integrated AI platform combining national supercomputing resources, federal scientific databases, and research facilities to accelerate discoveries across multiple domains including nuclear fusion and semiconductor manufacturing.

"America is in a race for global technology dominance in the development of artificial intelligence," states the order, which describes AI as "an important frontier of scientific discovery and economic growth."

At the core of this initiative is the "American Science and Security Platform," designed to provide researchers access to high-performance computing resources, AI modeling tools, and extensive federal datasets to train scientific foundation models and automate research processes.

The platform aims to demonstrate initial operational capability within nine months for at least one major scientific challenge from among 20 priorities that the Energy Department will identify within 60 days.

Priority areas include advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, critical materials, nuclear energy, quantum computing, and semiconductors – all sectors where the United States faces increasing competition from China.

The executive order calls for collaborative efforts with private enterprises, academic institutions, and national laboratories, while mandating robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard sensitive research.
