President Donald Trump expressed strong disapproval as the Jeffrey Epstein controversy intensified.
On Friday, US President Donald Trump alleged that the push to disclose information about Jeffrey Epstein's purported sex abuse network is a "hoax" orchestrated by his Democratic rivals.
"The Democrats are doing everything in their withering power to push the Epstein Hoax again," the Republican president stated on his Truth Social platform. He further criticized Republican lawmakers participating in this effort to publish the Epstein files as "soft and foolish."
Trump's heated response came amid escalating scrutiny surrounding the Epstein scandal, with increasing inquiries about the 79-year-old president's extensive and close association with the late disgraced financier.
Epstein passed away in prison in 2019—ruled as suicide by authorities—before facing trial on federal sex charges. However, questions regarding his alleged orchestration of a sex ring that provided underage girls to influential men only intensified.
Previously, Trump and several close associates had promised their conservative supporters they would pursue the release of all evidence against Epstein, including details about his alleged clients.
However, since taking office in January, Trump has vigorously attempted to suppress the issue.
The controversy peaked again with the release of emails subpoenaed by Congress from Epstein's estate. The email exchanges between Epstein and his associates, along with other materials, confirm that Trump maintained close relations with the financier, although no wrongdoing has been alleged against him.
The House of Representatives is now scheduled to vote as early as next week on demanding the Justice Department release its materials concerning Epstein.
These materials could potentially contain much more incriminating evidence than previously disclosed regarding the connections between Epstein and his circle, which over time included figures from Trump to Britain's former prince Andrew.
If the US House majority votes for disclosure, the Republican-controlled Senate would still need to approve it, and Trump would then have to sign the bill.
On Friday, Trump clearly indicated his opposition to this process.
"Epstein was a Democrat, and he is the Democrat's problem, not the Republican's problem!" he wrote. "Don't waste your time with Trump. I have a Country to run!"
