Eight Pieces Of Jewellery Stolen From Louvre, Diamond-Emerald Crown Recovered

France:

According to France's culture ministry, a theft at the Louvre on Sunday resulted in the loss of eight precious jewellery items. Among the stolen pieces was an exquisite emerald-and-diamond necklace that Emperor Napoleon had presented to his wife Empress Marie Louise.

"Two high-security display cases were targeted, and eight objects of invaluable cultural heritage were stolen," the ministry statement revealed.

The ministry further reported that a ninth item — the diamond and emerald encrusted crown belonging to Empress Eugenie — was fortunately recovered near the scene. The thieves apparently dropped this valuable crown during their hasty escape from the museum.
