Chicago:
An incident occurred at Chicago's O'Hare Airport involving two United Airlines aircraft when one plane approaching its gate clipped the tail of another United aircraft, according to authorities.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in Friday's incident. The 113 passengers aboard Flight 2652 arriving from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, experienced a delay but were eventually able to disembark normally, United officials confirmed in a statement.
Officials reported that the second aircraft had its horizontal stabilizer struck during the collision and was not in motion when the incident occurred.
Bill Marcus, who was traveling on the flight from Wyoming, shared that he was unaware anything had happened until the pilot announced there would be a delay to document an incident. Passengers then noticed a group of people gathering around the right wing of the aircraft.
"I was shocked that I didn't feel something more, although when they separated the planes there was some shuddering," Marcus told CBS News Chicago. He mentioned that the plane took approximately 40 additional minutes to reach the gate following the incident.
This comes just weeks after another incident earlier this month when two Delta Air Lines regional jets collided at the intersection of taxiways at New York's LaGuardia Airport, resulting in injury to a flight attendant.
These runway collisions may intensify concerns about aviation safety following recent crashes and near-miss incidents, including the most deadly plane crash in the United States in decades, which occurred in January when an Army helicopter collided with an airliner preparing to land at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
