Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has sparked controversy by connecting India with Pakistan's ongoing tensions with Afghanistan. In an interview with Samaa TV, Asif cautioned that India "could play dirty at the border" and asserted that Pakistan stands prepared for a potential "two-front war" amid escalating border conflicts with Afghanistan.
When questioned about possible Indian provocations along the border, Asif responded emphatically: "No, absolutely, you cannot rule that out. There are strong possibilities."
The interviewer further pressed: "If a two-front war breaks out, have you held any meetings with the Prime Minister on how to deal with it?"
Asif confirmed: "Yes, strategies are in place. I can't discuss them publicly, but we are prepared for any eventuality."
This statement follows Asif's previous controversial remarks where he accused Afghanistan's Taliban government of "fighting a proxy war" on behalf of India.
It's worth noting that Pakistan, a country with a documented history of harboring terrorism within its borders, has alleged that Afghanistan's Taliban government is "fighting a proxy war" for India.
In a recent interview with Geo News, Asif claimed: "I have my doubts that the ceasefire will hold, because the decisions of the [Afghan] Taliban are being sponsored by Delhi."
He further alleged: "Right now, Kabul is fighting a proxy war for Delhi."
These statements come amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Pakistani Defense Minister's comments were made after Islamabad and Kabul agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire following deadly cross-border skirmishes that resulted in numerous casualties among troops and civilians.
This temporary ceasefire came after a week of violent exchanges between the neighboring countries. The Taliban had initiated an offensive along sections of its southern border with Pakistan, prompting Islamabad to promise a robust response. Pakistan has accused Afghanistan of sheltering terrorist groups led by the Pakistani Taliban (TTP), an allegation that Kabul denies.
