Ace Frehley, founding member of KISS in 1973, has passed away at the age of 74.

The legendary lead guitarist for the iconic American glam rock group died at his home with family members present, following complications from a recent fall, according to a representative who spoke to AFP.

In a heartfelt statement, Frehley's family expressed their devastation at his loss, sharing that they were able to surround him with "loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions" during his final moments.

"Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements, Ace's memory will continue to live on forever!" the statement continued.

Frehley co-founded KISS in 1973 alongside Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss, helping to create one of rock music's most distinctive and theatrical acts.

The band became instantly recognizable for their elaborate Kabuki-style makeup, outlandish costumes, wild hairstyles, and towering platform boots that set them apart even during an era known for theatrical performances.

This distinctive visual identity contributed significantly to KISS's massive success, which produced hits such as "I Was Made for Lovin' You," "God of Thunder," and "Strutter."

KISS concerts were legendary spectacles featuring extensive pyrotechnics and smoke effects, while their iconic logo with lightning bolt "SS" letters became synonymous with their dramatic makeup and Simmons's famous tongue displays.

Frehley departed from KISS in 1982 amid struggles with substance abuse and creative differences within the group.

Following his exit, he maintained a successful solo career and formed the band Frehley's Comet, releasing several popular albums. He later reunited with KISS in the mid-1990s for a six-year period.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, and daughter, Monique.
