Zelensky Seeks US Tomahawk Missiles in Washington Meeting with Trump Amid Renewed Peace Efforts

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Washington to engage in crucial arms discussions, expressing hope that recent Middle East peace momentum could help resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

During his visit to the United States, Zelensky is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump on Friday. "We expect that the momentum of curbing terror and war that succeeded in the Middle East will help to end Russia's war against Ukraine," Zelensky stated on his X platform.

The Ukrainian leader emphasized his belief that the "language of strength and justice will inevitably work against Russia" in the ongoing conflict.

A key topic for discussion during the meeting with Trump will be the potential provision of US long-range Tomahawk missiles, which would give Ukraine the capability to reach Moscow from its territory.

Zelensky noted that "Moscow is rushing to resume dialogue as soon as it hears about Tomahawks," suggesting that the mere possibility of such weapons transfers is affecting Russian diplomatic positioning. He also plans to meet with American defense companies to secure additional air defense systems for Ukraine.

Interestingly, Zelensky's arrival comes shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin held a surprise call with Trump. During their conversation, Putin reportedly warned that supplying Tomahawk missiles would jeopardize peace efforts. The two leaders agreed to hold another summit, potentially in Budapest, following their previous meeting in Alaska on August 15, which yielded limited results.

Diplomatic initiatives to end the nearly four-year conflict have shown little progress in recent months. Meanwhile, Russian forces continue to target Ukrainian infrastructure, necessitating nationwide rolling power cuts for the second consecutive day as temperatures drop with the onset of winter.

Moscow has intensified its attacks on Ukraine's energy and railway infrastructure while ground offensive operations appear to have stalled.
