President Trump's approval rating has declined to 39% according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, approaching his lowest level during this current term.
The three-day survey, concluding Sunday, revealed a two-point drop from earlier December figures, placing the rating just one point above his mid-November low of 38%.
Despite returning to office in January with a relatively strong 47% approval, Trump's popularity has gradually diminished, particularly regarding economic management. The recent government shutdown interrupted economic data collection, but economists suggest employers have reduced hiring partly due to the impact of Trump's import tariffs.
Only 33% of Americans approve of Trump's economic leadership, marking his lowest rating on this issue this year.
While Republican support remains generally stable at 85% overall approval, the percentage of Republicans approving Trump's economic performance has fallen to 72%, down from 78% earlier this month and representing the lowest figure this year.
Trump campaigned successfully on economic reform promises, criticizing the inflation levels under former President Biden's Democratic administration. However, inflation has persisted under Trump's leadership, hovering around 3%, above the 2% threshold considered healthier by economic policymakers.
Public confidence in Trump's handling of living costs has also declined, with approval in this area dropping to 27% from 31% earlier in December.
The online poll collected responses from 1,016 people nationwide and carries a three-percentage-point margin of error.
