FBI Releases Enhanced Video of Brown University Shooting Suspect with $50,000 Reward Offered

Brown University has implemented enhanced security protocols following the recent shooting incident.

U.S. authorities have released an updated video timeline and a slightly clearer image of the suspected Brown University shooter. The investigation has gained renewed momentum after the previously detained "person of interest" was released, though investigators have not indicated significant progress in identifying the actual perpetrator.

The FBI has established a $50,000 reward for information leading to the suspect's identification. Meanwhile, investigators are thoroughly searching Providence neighborhoods, including homes, yards, and dumpsters, seeking evidence related to Saturday's campus shooting that resulted in two student fatalities and nine injuries.

The FBI, working alongside Providence Police Department and Rhode Island State Police, has published a video timeline documenting the movements of a person of interest in the December 13 shooting incident at Brown University, while announcing the substantial reward for helpful information.

In the FBI-released footage, the suspect's face remains obscured or turned away. Currently, authorities can only provide a general description: a stocky individual approximately 5 feet, 8 inches (173 centimeters) tall.

Providence Police have also released enhanced video footage of the person of interest, captured on Providence's East Side on Saturday afternoon before the incident, requesting widespread sharing of this information.

Surveillance recordings shared by authorities show an individual in dark clothing walking along multiple sidewalks for approximately one hour, beginning shortly after 2 pm on Saturday. These locations were all within close proximity to the Brown University engineering building where the shooting occurred.

Police have received approximately 200 tips and continue to request that local residents check their surveillance systems for footage that might assist in identifying the suspected gunman.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha defended the investigation's progress as "really well" while requesting public patience. Significant questions remain, particularly regarding the shooter's motive. When questioned about potential connections to ethnicity, political motivations, or cultural factors, Neronha cautioned that such speculation would be "a dangerous road to go down."

The attack and the perpetrator's escape have prompted scrutiny of campus security measures, including insufficient camera coverage, and generated calls for improved door locking mechanisms throughout campus buildings.

Brown University officials stated they have implemented enhanced security measures since the incident, including doubling the university's public safety department staffing and restricting access to campus facilities.

According to police reports, the gunman entered an engineering building with unlocked doors during examination periods. He discharged a 9mm firearm inside a classroom before fleeing, triggering a campus-wide lockdown that forced students to barricade themselves in rooms or hide beneath furniture for hours.
