Kremlin Expresses Reservations About New US Proposals on Ukraine Peace Deal

Moscow has indicated its openness to foreign investments while expressing reservations about potential US proposals.

On Friday, Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov stated that Russia has not yet reviewed the updated US proposals following recent discussions with Ukraine, though he anticipated Moscow might find certain aspects unsatisfactory.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy revealed on Wednesday that Kyiv had reached agreement on fundamental elements of a post-conflict reconstruction strategy during discussions with Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, along with other senior officials.

According to Zelenskiy, progress on an "economic document" was underway, with Ukraine "fully aligned with the American side."

The United States has proposed establishing an investment fund in Ukraine focusing on sectors including rare metals as a central component of the country's reconstruction after the war.

Moscow has also expressed interest in drawing foreign investment following reports by the Wall Street Journal that Washington's peace plan incorporates proposals for investment in Russian rare earths and energy sectors.

Kremlin aide Ushakov remarked on Friday that the Russian side had not yet examined the new proposals, but suggested Moscow might view them unfavorably.

"...We haven't seen the revised versions of the American drafts. When we see them, we may not like a lot of things, that's how I sense it," Ushakov informed reporters.

He further noted that European and Ukrainian officials were expected to participate in an "active brainstorming session" during the weekend, and the Kremlin needed to observe the outcome.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on Thursday that there were no remaining "misunderstandings" with Washington regarding Ukraine, but emphasized that Moscow desired any peace plan to include collective security assurances for all involved parties.
