A Delhi court on Friday placed three medical professionals and a religious leader arrested in relation to the November 10 Red Fort explosion case into judicial custody for 12 days.
Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla, another suspect in the case, was also brought before Principal and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna for voice sample verification purposes.
The four defendants — Dr. Muzammil Ganai, Dr. Adeel Rather, Dr. Shaheena Saeed, and Maulvi Irfan Ahmed Wagay — appeared in court as their four-day custody period with the National Investigation Agency, granted on December 8, came to an end.
Media representatives were not permitted to report on the court proceedings, which were conducted under heightened security measures throughout the Patiala House district court complex.
To date, the National Investigation Agency has apprehended eight individuals in this case, which is connected to a sophisticated 'white collar' terror network dismantled by Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla, who resides in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, represents the eighth arrest in the investigation. NIA officials detained the physician in Delhi on December 9, identifying him as a significant figure in the conspiracy.
"According to NIA investigations, Bilal knowingly provided shelter and logistical support to the deceased suspect Umar Un Nabi. He also stands accused of destroying evidence related to the terrorist attack," the agency stated on December 9.
"The agency continues pursuing various investigative angles regarding the suicide bombing, and has been conducting searches across multiple states in coordination with local police forces to identify and locate others involved in this horrific attack," the agency noted in an earlier statement.
Dr. Umar Un Nabi was operating the explosive-rigged i20 vehicle that detonated near the Red Fort on November 10, resulting in 15 fatalities and numerous injuries.
PTI previously reported that this sophisticated terror operation, led by a group of medical doctors, had been actively seeking a suicide bomber since last year, with Umar allegedly serving as the principal organizer.
