A Russian military aircraft crashed on Tuesday while conducting a test flight following repair operations, the defence ministry announced.

TASS state news agency reported that seven individuals were aboard the aircraft at the time of the crash, and their survival status remains unknown.

"Today in the Ivanovo region, an AN-22 military transport aircraft crashed during a test flight following repairs," state media quoted the defence ministry saying in an official statement.

"The aircraft went down in an uninhabited area," the statement added.

Search and rescue teams have been deployed, and an investigation into the accident has been launched, according to the defence ministry.

The Ivanovo region is situated approximately 200 kilometres (125 miles) east of Moscow.

There was no indication that the incident was related to Russia's military operations in Ukraine or allegations of involvement by Kyiv.
