Trump Warns Supreme Court Ruling Against Tariffs Would Create "Biggest" National Security Threat

President Trump declared on Tuesday that a Supreme Court ruling against his tariff authority would pose a significant national security threat to the United States.

The Supreme Court has been examining the legality of Trump's comprehensive tariff policy since November 5, though no decision date has been announced yet.

Various businesses and Democratic-led states have filed challenges with the US Court of International Trade, contending that these tariffs violate the Constitution because tariff-imposing power belongs to Congress, not the executive branch.

"The biggest threat in history to United States National Security would be a negative decision on Tariffs by the US Supreme Court," Trump stated on his social media platform.

Trump further claimed that the United States would be "financially defenseless" if the Supreme Court ruled against his tariff authority.

"We would not be allowed to do what others already do!" he added, accompanying his post with an image of French President Emmanuel Macron during his recent China visit.

Just days earlier, Macron had threatened China with potential tariffs "in the coming months" unless Beijing takes action to reduce its substantial trade surplus with the European Union.

In his post, Trump emphasized: "because of Tariffs, easily and quickly applied, our National Security has been greatly enhanced, and we have become the financially strongest Country, by far, anywhere in the World. Only dark and sinister forces would want to see that end!!!"

Trump's popularity ratings have declined to their lowest level since he returned to office in January, particularly regarding cost of living concerns, which many Americans partially attribute to his tariff policies.

US inflation increased to 2.8 percent annually in September.

This issue has also created divisions within the MAGA movement. Former close ally Marjorie Taylor Greene, who distanced herself from Trump in November, criticized the president for failing to address affordability concerns.

Recently, Costco became the most prominent US company to legally challenge the tariffs, which represent a fundamental element of Trump's strategy to correct what he considers a persistent imbalance in US trade and to apply diplomatic leverage on other nations.

The lawsuit argues that these tariffs are unlawful.
