Kunal Kamra Sparks Row With T-Shirt Mocking RSS, BJP Warns Of Action

BJP officials have strongly condemned the post, describing it as both insulting and provocative.

Comedian Kunal Kamra has ignited fresh controversy after posting a photo of himself on social media wearing a T-shirt allegedly ridiculing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). This has drawn sharp reactions from the BJP, which threatened police action on Tuesday.

Maharashtra minister and senior BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule issued a warning that police would take measures against individuals posting "objectionable" content online.

"The police would pursue action against anyone publishing such objectionable posts," stated Bawankule, responding to Kamra's Monday social media post featuring a T-shirt with a dog image alongside a reference to the RSS, which serves as the BJP's ideological foundation.

Shiv Sena cabinet minister Sanjay Shirsat, whose party is allied with BJP, emphasized that the national saffron organization must respond forcefully to the comedian's controversial post, noting that Kamra had previously made caustic remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.

"Previously, he targeted Prime Minister Modi and Eknath Shinde, and now he has directly challenged the RSS. The BJP needs to address this," Shirsat stated.

"We (Shiv Sena) responded to it (to Kamra's critical comments on Shinde earlier this year). Now, he has gathered the courage to make an objectionable post against the RSS," the minister added.

In March, Kamra stirred controversy with critical comments against Shinde, who leads the Shiv Sena. The 36-year-old comedian had mocked Shinde's political career during his performance by altering lyrics from a popular Hindi movie song.

Enraged by these remarks, Shiv Sena members later vandalized the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai's Khar district as well as the hotel housing the club where Kamra's performance took place.

Following the latest controversy, a defiant Kamra posted on social media clarifying that the photograph with the RSS reference was not "clicked at a comedy club".

BJP leaders have expressed strong objections to the post, labeling it insulting and provocative.
