A tragic incident occurred in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh where a 19-year-old nursing student named Pallavi died after jumping from the fourth floor of her hostel building.
Pallavi, who was pursuing her second year Bachelor of Science (BSc) in nursing at PES College in Kuppam, jumped from the hostel on Thursday evening due to what officials described as mental distress.
CCTV footage captured the moment Pallavi jumped from the building, prompting staff and students to rush to her aid immediately.
Despite being quickly transported to a hospital, Pallavi succumbed to her injuries on Friday morning.
The family of the deceased has alleged that the college staff bears responsibility for Pallavi's death, citing inadequate supervision and support systems. Police have registered a case of suspected suicide and launched an investigation into the matter.
The incident has created significant distress among students and staff at the campus, with parents expressing serious concerns regarding safety measures and security protocols in college hostels.
This tragedy follows recent similar incidents in the region, including two engineering students from Sreenivasa Institute of Technology and Management Studies (SITAMS) who attempted suicide in early November, resulting in one fatality and another student in critical condition.
Additionally, just last week, another engineering student, aged 20, died by suicide in Srikakulam district.
