The police in Delhi have dismantled a significant international illegal arms trafficking network that was importing weapons manufactured in China and Turkey into India. This syndicate, connected to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was utilizing drones to smuggle high-quality pistols from Pakistan into Indian territory, according to officials.
Authorities have apprehended four principal members of the operation, including Mandeep, a wanted criminal from Punjab, along with two of his close associates, Rohan and Monu, both hailing from Uttar Pradesh. Law enforcement also seized 10 high-end foreign pistols and 92 live rounds of ammunition.
Mandeep, who has ties to the Sonu Khatri gang, faces numerous criminal charges, including murder allegations.
Investigations have uncovered that drones were delivering weapon shipments to predetermined locations. These packages were wrapped in carbon paper to evade scanner detection. Gang members were subsequently directed to retrieve the weapons from these drop points and transport them to Delhi.
Officials stated that these armaments were then distributed to criminals operating in Delhi and neighboring states.
Police are currently investigating to determine the quantity of weapons sold within India and identify the criminal groups or individuals involved in this illegal enterprise.
The principal operator of the network is reportedly Jaspreet, also known as Jassa, who operates from the United States and maintains direct communication with his contacts in Pakistan, according to sources.
Security agencies are also investigating additional gang members and their connections through analysis of mobile phones, banking information, and social media activities.
Security measures have been enhanced in Delhi and other regions following an explosion in the national capital last Monday.
The incident claimed 15 lives and left numerous others injured when a Hyundai i20 vehicle driven by a suicide bomber named Umar un Nabi exploded near the Red Fort (Lal Qila) on November 10.
Hours before the explosion, Jammu and Kashmir Police had announced their success in dismantling an interstate and transnational "white-collar" terror network linked to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed and the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, an al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist organization.
They also reported seizing 2,900 kilograms of explosive materials, including ammonium nitrate, which was allegedly used in the Delhi attack.
