Do Your Karma, Dots Will Connect: RBI Governor's Advice To Students

RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra shared profound career advice with students during his address at the Delhi School of Economics.

New Delhi:

"Do your Karma, do it with passion, and the dots will connect," emphasized Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra while addressing students on Thursday at the prestigious Delhi School of Economics.

During the interactive session following his VKRV Rao Memorial Lecture, Malhotra referenced Apple co-founder Steve Jobs' philosophy when a student asked for guidance on becoming an RBI Governor.

"This is something that you can't actually predict going forward," Malhotra explained. "As Steve Jobs said, the dots will connect only when you look backwards. Going forward, don't focus on the results. Do your Karma, do your work, do it with passion, do it with hard work, and the dots will connect."

This marks the second time Governor Malhotra has invoked the concept of 'karma' while speaking to students. Previously, on June 23, he advised IIT Kanpur students to question the status quo, emphasize continuous learning, and understand that karma largely determines outcomes.

Malhotra's academic background includes a degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kanpur and a Master's in Public Policy from Princeton University, USA.

An Indian Administrative Service Officer of the 1990 batch from the Rajasthan Cadre, Malhotra assumed his role as the 26th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India on December 11, 2024. Before this appointment, he served as Secretary in the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.
