Bhopal:
A government team conducting the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was attacked on Wednesday when a group of intoxicated villagers allegedly pelted them with stones.
The incident occurred in Sailana assembly constituency, resulting in injuries to naib tehsildar Ramkalesh Saket and booth level officer Vikram Singh Rathod. Both officials were immediately transported to Ratlam Medical College for medical attention.
Officials reported that the team had arrived in Julwania near Ratlam for electoral roll verification when three inebriated men on a motorcycle approached and began verbally abusing them unprovoked.
The assailants continuously threw stones at the officers and staff, causing the team to disperse for their safety.
Rathod, who sustained injuries to his arm and stomach, described the attack as unexpected and persistent.
"They approached on a motorcycle, intoxicated, and started hurling abuse without any reason. They continued throwing stones at us. The patwari pushed the tehsildar out of harm's way, preventing potentially more severe injuries," he stated.
Police have identified the attackers as residents of Umar village. Two suspects, Saysingh (28) and Bapi Tad (55), have been apprehended, while the third suspect, Shoksingh (31), remains at large. Authorities have registered an attempted murder case against all three individuals, and investigations are continuing.
SDM Julwania Tarun Jain confirmed that the team was performing official electoral roll revision duties when the attack took place.
"Our BLO Vikram Singh was conducting SIR-related work on site. Naib Tehsildar Saket had arrived for inspection. Troublemakers from a neighboring village attacked them with stones and verbal abuse," he explained.
ASP Ratlam Rakesh Khakha stated that the SIR survey team consisted of five personnel, including the new Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar, a BLO, and an Anganwadi worker. "The attack commenced immediately upon their arrival in the area. Two suspects are currently in custody and undergoing questioning. Efforts to apprehend the third fugitive suspect are ongoing," he added.
