Bishnoi was arrested in California's Sacramento in November 2024.
New Delhi:
Anmol Bishnoi, a primary suspect in the murders of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique and singer Sidhu Moosewala, utilized a fraudulent passport under the alias Bhanu Pratap to unlawfully enter the United States, according to officials.
The brother of Lawrence Bishnoi was deported from the US on Tuesday and arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon. NDTV has accessed a copy of the counterfeit passport, which was created in 2021. The document listed the date of birth for Anmol Bishnoi, or in this instance, Bhanu Pratap, as December 15, 2000, with parents named Rakesh and Sumitra Devi.
The passport carried the number V3534569, and specified an address in Sector 82, Faridabad.
Bishnoi was apprehended in Sacramento, California in November 2024 for entering the country with fraudulent documentation. His arrest occurred shortly after a Maharashtra court issued a non-bailable warrant against him and Interpol released a Red Corner Notice.
Upon landing, the National Investigation Agency formally arrested the gangster. He subsequently underwent a medical examination before being presented at Delhi's Patiala House Court, where the anti-terror agency requested 15 days of custody. The court granted them custody of Bishnoi for 11 days.
Following the NIA's interrogation, law enforcement from various states and cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, will seek to question Bishnoi regarding multiple cases pending against him in their jurisdictions.
Among the numerous cases in which he stands accused, three high-profile ones include the murders of Baba Siddique in Mumbai in October last year and Sidhu Moosewala in Punjab's Mansa district in May 2022, as well as the shooting incident outside Salman Khan's Mumbai residence in April last year.
In an exclusive conversation with NDTV on Tuesday, Baba Siddique's son, Zeeshan, revealed that he had been following up with US authorities regarding Bishnoi's extradition for months, explaining to them that the gangster was wanted for his father's murder.
"I am confident he will be brought to Mumbai as well. Anmol Bishnoi and my father had no connection. So given that Anmol Bishnoi committed this act and the Mumbai police have named him, it is crucial for us to identify the mastermind behind the murder. I believe once he arrives on Indian soil, our legal system will deliver justice," stated Zeeshan, a former MLA and member of Ajit Pawar's NCP.
"This appears to be a contract killing. It's essential for us to obtain all details. For society as a whole, it's important to understand this for everyone's safety," he added.
