Rohini Acharya, who donated her kidney to her father and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, has responded sharply to a journalist's comments
New Delhi:
Rohini Acharya, the 46-year-old daughter of veteran politician Lalu Prasad Yadav, has publicly confronted a journalist who suggested that "married daughters must not spend a lot of time at their parents' home." This confrontation comes amid the family drama following the Bihar election defeat for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Acharya shared a video of a phone conversation with the senior journalist. In the recording, she first asks him to repeat his comments about married daughters. When the journalist stated that "married daughters should stay at their homes," Acharya responded forcefully.
"Do you keep track of how many times I visit my parents' home? What is a lot of time, according to you? How many hours or days must daughters stay at their parents' homes? You tell me. Do I stay at your home?" she questioned.
"You tell this to your daughter, your sister, your mother, and your daughter-in-law. You are not responsible for this daughter. Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi are responsible for this daughter," continued Acharya, who is the second of the former Chief Minister couple's nine children.
Speaking with a noticeably hoarse voice in the video, Acharya clarified that she lives with her husband and only visits her parents when invited. "This time, I went because your leader, Tejashwi Yadav, called me."
She also referenced her kidney donation to her father in 2022, challenging the journalist: "You know a lot about what married women should and should not do. You say they should not spend much time at their parents' home. You must also ask how a married woman can donate her kidney to her father? Why didn't the son do so?"
When the journalist attempted to calm the situation by suggesting she was angry, Acharya firmly stated, "I am not angry. I am asking a question."
During the exchange, when the journalist suggested many people would willingly donate a kidney to Lalu Yadav, his daughter retorted, "The son ran away, and you are offering a kidney? So many people are dying without kidneys. Please donate in Lalu Yadav's name. Come on. You can't even donate a bottle of blood."
In her social media post accompanying the video, Acharya challenged those making inappropriate comments about her kidney donation to debate her publicly. She dared self-proclaimed supporters of her father to donate kidneys to people in need, suggesting they begin with those who had called her kidney "dirty."
This controversy follows Acharya's recent public accusations against her brother Tejashwi Yadav, claiming he blamed her for RJD's poor electoral performance and humiliated her after the results. She also alleged being told that she donated her "dirty kidney" in exchange for a Lok Sabha election ticket last year, which she ultimately lost.
In an emotional Facebook post, Acharya expressed regret: "I didn't look after my family, my three children, didn't take permission from my husband or my in-laws when donating the kidney... I did what I did to save my god, my father, and today it's been called dirty... May none of you ever make a mistake like mine, may no family ever have a daughter like Rohini."
Acharya has additionally accused Tejashwi's close associates, Rameez Nemat Khan and RJD MP Sanjay Jha, of forcing her out of the family home. She also claimed that Tejashwi Yadav threw a slipper at her during an argument.
