The deceased woman was discovered near a highway bridge construction site on November 13.
Palghar authorities have apprehended a man accused of murdering his 25-year-old wife, whose body was found alongside the Mumbai-Vadodara highway in Maharashtra's Palghar district, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
According to police reports, the suspect strangled his wife to death due to suspicions about her fidelity.
The woman's body was discovered near a bridge construction site along the highway on November 13.
"Initial investigation indicated the victim was strangled with her own dupatta. Following this discovery, authorities registered an FIR against an unknown perpetrator under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita," stated Talasari police station inspector Ajay Gorad.
With limited initial evidence, police formed multiple investigative teams to accelerate the case.
Investigators circulated the victim's photograph and subsequently identified her with assistance from family members.
The investigation then focused on her husband, Sakirali Mustafaali Mansuri, a 43-year-old driver originally from Uttar Pradesh who resided in Surat, Gujarat.
Authorities apprehended him at the Maharashtra-Gujarat border near Achhad on Monday.
"During interrogation, the accused confessed to police that he harbored serious doubts about his wife's character and suspected her of engaging in an extramarital relationship, which motivated him to commit the murder," the official explained.
The investigation into the case continues.
