Tripura Court Sentences Man to 20 Years Rigorous Imprisonment for Rape Case from 2019

A court in Tripura's Khowai district has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a girl six years ago, according to a police statement released on Sunday.

The District and Sessions Judge, V P Debbarma, additionally imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Samir Kuri, who resides in the Indiranagar area. The judgment, pronounced on Saturday, stipulated that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional six months of imprisonment.

Following the incident in 2019, Kuri was arrested based on a formal complaint. The investigating officer conducted a comprehensive probe and subsequently filed a charge-sheet, which initiated the trial process, stated Tripura Police spokesperson Rajdeep Deb in the official statement.
