New Delhi:
Following the devastating Red Fort explosion that claimed 13 lives, authorities in central Delhi have significantly ramped up counter-terrorism measures across critical areas of the capital. These enhanced security protocols include thorough verification operations, intensified checkpoint inspections, and bolstered armed presence at vulnerable locations, according to an official statement released Sunday.
"During a specialized operation on Saturday night, authorities confiscated 34 abandoned vehicles, while law enforcement issued 417 citations under the Delhi Police Act during a five-hour enforcement initiative," the official reported.
This intensified security approach is part of a wider strategic response implemented in the aftermath of the explosion, the officer explained.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Central Range) Madhur Verma, collaborating with district DCPs, ACPs, SHOs, and specialized units, has been conducting regular coordination sessions with Market Welfare Associations (MWAs), RWAs, business owners, and street vendors.
"Security personnel have been implementing area control exercises, unannounced inspections, and emergency response drills to evaluate operational preparedness. Armed officers have been positioned at busy commercial centers, places of worship, tourist attractions, and critical infrastructure," he noted.
The official further indicated that verification procedures have been strengthened at accommodations, internet cafes, shopping centers, theaters, chemical retailers, SIM card vendors, and business districts. He emphasized that verification of tenants, domestic workers, laborers, and security personnel has also been intensified to prevent potential infiltration by hostile elements.
According to the officer, as part of the heightened alert measures, rigorous checkpoint inspections were conducted between 5 pm and 10 pm on Saturday throughout the district. Security forces examined 683 vehicles at various checkpoints and verified 24 unknown individuals during the operation.
"The aim was to enhance police visibility, deterrence capability, and real-time surveillance. Mobile patrols are regularly conducting public announcements and awareness briefings, encouraging citizens to promptly report any suspicious objects, vehicles, or individuals," the official added.
