Former IPS Officer Anand Mishra Secures Historic BJP Victory in Bihar's Traditional Congress Stronghold

Former IPS officer Anand Mishra, known for his viral policing videos and counter-insurgency operations, has won Bihar's Buxar assembly seat by over 28,000 votes. After transitioning from Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party to BJP in August 2024, the martial arts black belt holder defeated Congress in its traditional stronghold, marking a significant political debut in his home state.

Former IPS officer Anand Mishra has secured a significant electoral victory in Bihar's Buxar constituency, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Mishra defeated Congress candidate Sanjay Kumar Tiwari by an impressive margin exceeding 28,000 votes.

Mishra, who belonged to the 2011 IPS batch, had established a reputation during his police service in Assam and Meghalaya for his distinctive policing style. His videos showing effective law enforcement operations, charismatic leadership, and motorcycle patrols had previously garnered widespread attention on social media platforms.

During his tenure in Meghalaya, particularly in the Garo Hills region, Mishra played a crucial role in counter-insurgency operations against militant groups. He further distinguished himself while leading similar security operations in Assam's Charaideo district.

The former officer also earned recognition for his successful anti-narcotics campaigns in Assam's Lakhimpur and Dhubri districts, where his innovative approaches to policing made significant impacts.

Born on June 1, 1981, in Bihar's Bhojpur district, Mishra served as Superintendent of Police across several districts in Assam, where he gained popularity for his community engagement initiatives and effective policing methods.

In January 2024, Mishra resigned from the police service to pursue political aspirations in his home state of Bihar. While he initially aligned himself with former election strategist Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party, he subsequently joined the BJP in August 2024.

According to sources, Mishra maintains strong connections with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological foundation of the BJP. During his posting in BJP-governed Assam, he was frequently observed in the company of various RSS leaders.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mishra holds expertise in martial arts with a black belt certification.

His victory in Buxar represents a significant achievement for the political newcomer. The constituency has traditionally been a Congress stronghold, having elected Congress candidates in 10 out of 17 elections since the constituency was established in 1951. Prior to Mishra's win, the BJP had secured this seat only three times, with parties like the CPM occasionally winning the constituency.
