Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan expressed feeling "troubled" after learning about veganism's ethical foundations during Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) Season 17. The enlightening conversation took place with contestant Siddharth Sharma, who has embraced veganism for seven years.
During their exchange, Sharma explained that veganism involves avoiding all animal-derived products to prevent exploitation and minimize harm to animals. This lifestyle excludes meat, dairy, eggs, leather, and even cosmetics tested on animals.
Bachchan, showing genuine curiosity, asked whether Sharma avoided everything sourced from animals. The contestant responded thoughtfully, "I feel just like we want to live, they also want to live. I don't take anything that comes from an animal. Milk is made for the calf only... no species can stay constantly pregnant their whole lifetime, they are artificially inseminated. I don't find it ethical."
Visibly affected by this perspective, the veteran actor admitted, "Jaa kar ke aaj pareshaan honga main (I will go home today and feel troubled about this)," before acknowledging, "You have opened my eyes."

Bachchan himself has been predominantly vegetarian since approximately 2000. According to The Times of India, he transitioned away from non-vegetarian food about two decades ago. During KBC Season 15, he reminisced about enjoying meat in his younger years before eventually abandoning it for health reasons.
A Lucknow chef who has prepared meals for the superstar revealed in 2019 that Bachchan's typical dietary routine includes milk and egg bhurji for breakfast, followed by rotis, plain dal, and green vegetables at lunch. For dinner, he generally opts for soup or extremely light meals, completely avoiding rice.
Health-focused publications have reported that Amitabh Bachchan has eliminated sweets, rice, all non-vegetarian items, tea, coffee, alcohol, and carbonated beverages from his diet.
