Maithili Thakur: BJP's Folk Singer Candidate Leading in Bihar's Alinagar Constituency

BJP candidate Maithili Thakur expressed that she is mentally prepared to serve the people of Bihar.

Folk singer and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Maithili Thakur, who is participating in her first election, is currently leading in the Alinagar constituency according to early trends. The electoral newcomer joined the BJP just one month prior to the assembly elections with the goal to "serve Bihar".

Following the exit polls that predicted a significant victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the 25-year-old Thakur stated she is "mentally prepared" to serve Bihar's citizens.

"I don't contemplate whether I'll win or lose because I'm extremely happy and satisfied with my 30-day journey. I have complete faith. I feel that I will be residing here and serving the people, so I am mentally prepared for that," Thakur explained to NDTV's Editor-in-Chief Rahul Kanwal.

The first-time contestant Thakur considers her decision to enter the election as the "best decision" of her life.

"I believe this was the finest decision I've ever made. The knowledge I've gained in these 30 days by living among the people couldn't have been acquired from any book or other source, and this single month has transformed my entire life," Thakur shared with NDTV while discussing her electoral experience.

Previously in October, during another NDTV interview, Thakur had expressed her desire to "serve Bihar."

"I have been doing this through my folk songs, which is why I chose not to go abroad."

"I aim to advance the culture of my region, and if politics provides this opportunity, nothing would be more significant to me. I don't wish to enter politics merely to engage in political activities. I want to serve my region," she had added.

Thakur lacked interest in politics until a few years ago. It was only after she began listening to her "favourite leader", Prime Minister Narendra Modi, that she was drawn to the political arena.

"PM Modi is an inspiration to the youth. I am fortunate to work under his leadership," she stated.
