New Delhi:
Vote counting for Bihar's 243 assembly constituencies commenced on Friday. A party or alliance needs 122 seats to form the government. Early trends indicate the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal United (JD(U)), has established a substantial lead over the opposition Mahagathbandhan (MGB).
Current trends show the NDA leading in over 200 seats, far exceeding the majority requirement, while the MGB leads in just 36 seats. Among the key battlegrounds is Mahua constituency, featuring a competitive race between Tej Pratap Yadav's Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD), Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) representing the NDA, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) from the MGB, and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
The latest developments from Mahua reveal Tej Pratap Yadav trailing significantly. LJP(RV) candidate Sanjay Kumar Singh currently leads with more than 34,000 votes. RJD's incumbent MLA Mukesh Kumar Raushan holds second position with nearly 20,000 votes, while AIMIM's Amit Kumar has secured 9,564 votes.
Tej Pratap has obtained 9,557 votes, trailing Sanjay Kumar Singh by over 20,000 votes. Following his expulsion from the RJD earlier this year, Tej Pratap established his own party, the JJD. The party fielded 21 candidates in its inaugural election list, with Tej Pratap himself contesting from Mahua.
The Mahua assembly constituency is located in Bihar's Vaishali district. Tej Pratap Yadav previously represented this constituency in 2015 as an RJD member. However, in the 2020 election, Mukesh Kumar Raushan claimed the seat.
In the 2020 assembly elections, RJD's Mukesh Kumar Raushan emerged victorious, defeating JD(U)'s Ashma Parveen by 13,770 votes. Raushan received 62,747 votes compared to Parveen's 48,977 votes.
