Several Injured In Red Fort Blast Suffer Hearing Loss, Pain In Ear

Medical experts have reported that numerous individuals injured in the Red Fort explosion are experiencing hearing difficulties and ear pain.

Among the 13 fatalities from Monday's blast, authorities have only been able to identify eight victims, as the others arrived in dismembered condition.

A significant number of those injured have been admitted to LNJP Hospital across various departments.

According to an official who spoke with PTI, the hospital's emergency ward is currently treating 12 patients – six in isolation, four in intensive care, four in neurosurgery, and one in the trauma center.

Md Safwan, a 28-year-old from Chennai, is suffering from bilateral ear pain along with leg swelling, abrasions, and bruises.

Another 28-year-old, Shiva Jaiswal from Uttar Pradesh, is experiencing hearing issues in both ears and has sustained burns on his arm, forearm, and face, in addition to multiple abrasions.

Dr. Devinder Rai, Senior Consultant in the ENT Department at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, explained that the impact severity in high-intensity explosions depends on several factors, including proximity to the blast site.

"Some individuals have what we refer to as 'soft ears,' making them more vulnerable to noise-induced trauma. The effects vary in duration and intensity, often resulting in temporary or permanent hearing impairment, and sometimes tinnitus – a continuous ringing sensation in the ear," Dr. Rai stated.

On Monday evening, a powerful explosion tore through a slow-moving vehicle near the Red Fort area, claiming 13 lives and injuring approximately 27 people. Authorities have sealed the entire area for investigation purposes.

Among the unidentified victims, one is believed to be approximately 40 years old, while another is estimated to be around 58. Three additional bodies arrived at the hospital at 11:53 PM and 11:51 PM, with one body part received at 10:22 PM on Monday, according to the most recent medical report accessed by PTI.

On Thursday, officials confirmed that Bilal, a 35-year-old from Jammu and Kashmir, was pronounced dead at 1:53 AM.

Other identified victims include Mohseen, 36, from Daryaganj; Ashok Kumar, 34, from Uttar Pradesh; Aman Kartariya, 35, from Delhi; Dinesh Kumar, 34, from Uttar Pradesh; Lokesh Kumar, 60, from Uttar Pradesh; Numan, 19, from Uttar Pradesh; and Pankaj Sahani, 23, from Delhi.
