New Delhi:
Congress leader KC Venugopal on Wednesday expressed concerns about the government's responsibility to provide a thorough investigation into the Delhi blasts and disclose the actual cause to the nation.
He emphasized the severity of the security breach, stating, "During the Mumbai blasts, when the UPA held power, the Home Minister resigned, accepting moral responsibility. Now, this incident has occurred in the National Capital, indicating a serious security failure. Our Union Home Minister claims there are no riots or blasts, yet this explosion happened very close to his office. The government must conduct a comprehensive inquiry and reveal the true reasons to the country."
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has established a "dedicated and comprehensive" team to investigate the recent Delhi car blast incident, which has been identified as a terrorist attack carried out by a Jaish-e-Mohammad module discovered by Indian agencies, according to top sources.
This investigative team will work under the supervision of senior officials, including those at the Superintendent of Police level and above, to ensure a coordinated and thorough examination of the case.
The explosion occurred around 7 pm on Monday near the Subhash Marg traffic signal in proximity to the Red Fort, involving a slow-moving Hyundai i20 car and resulting in damage to several nearby vehicles.
The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed profound sorrow on Wednesday for the lives lost in the terrorist incident near the Red Fort in Delhi on Monday evening.
Cabinet members observed two minutes of silence to honor the innocent victims.
The Cabinet adopted a resolution strongly condemning the "dastardly and cowardly act" that resulted in the loss of innocent lives and reaffirmed India's commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding terrorism.
It instructed that the investigation into the terror incident be conducted with the highest level of urgency and professionalism to ensure that the perpetrators and their collaborators are brought to justice.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who informed the media about cabinet decisions, read the resolution.
He mentioned that the situation continues to be monitored closely at the highest government levels.
The Cabinet reaffirmed the Government's firm determination to protect the lives and well-being of all Indians, in line with its ongoing commitment to national security and citizen safety.
The resolution stated that the country has experienced a heinous terror incident, executed by anti-national forces, through a car explosion near the Red Fort on the evening of November 10. The explosion caused multiple fatalities and injured several others.
"The Cabinet pays its solemn respects to the victims of this senseless act of violence and conveys its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The Cabinet prays for the speedy recovery of all those injured, and appreciates the prompt efforts of the medical personnel and emergency responders, who have been providing care and support to the victims. The Cabinet unequivocally condemns this dastardly and cowardly act that has led to the loss of innocent lives," the resolution stated.
"The Cabinet reiterates India's unwavering commitment to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations," it added.
The Cabinet also acknowledged and appreciated the statements of solidarity and support received from numerous governments worldwide.
