A devastating explosion occurred in Murshidabad's Rameshwarpur village on Wednesday, resulting in the death of a three-year-old girl and critically injuring five others.
The powerful blast took place around 12:30 pm within the residence of Anisur Sheikh, completely destroying the home and triggering a fire.
At the time of the explosion, six individuals were present in the house, including four women, a child, and Sheikh himself. A neighbor also sustained injuries in the incident.
The explosion caused widespread panic throughout the area, particularly given recent concerns following the car bomb incident in Delhi. Local residents quickly gathered at the scene.
Rescue efforts were conducted jointly by police and villagers, who worked to extract the victims from the burning structure. All injured parties were initially transported to Gokarna Block Primary Health Centre, with five subsequently transferred to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital, where the three-year-old child tragically succumbed to her injuries.
According to hospital sources, the remaining victims are in "very critical" condition.
The injured individuals have been identified as Ahladi Bibi, Ruli Bibi, Amina Parveen (3), Nurjahan Khatun, Anisur Sheikh alias Dalim, and Rizba Bibi.
Kumar Sunny Raj, Superintendent of Police for Murshidabad, confirmed the child's death and stated that initial investigations suggest a cooking gas cylinder explosion as the probable cause.
"The entire matter is being thoroughly investigated," he stated. Law enforcement has not ruled out foul play and is examining all possible angles in the case.
