Democrats have released emails written by Jeffrey Epstein that indicate US President Donald Trump was potentially aware of sexual abuse occurring and, according to the emails, "knew about the girls."
This revelation comes four months after the Trump administration declared the case closed, stating there was no additional information to disclose.
President Trump has consistently denied any involvement or knowledge regarding the sex-trafficking activities of his former associate, the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The newly released emails, made public by Democrats who have been advocating for full disclosure of the Epstein case files, were addressed to Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's associate, and author Michael Wolff.
In an April 2011 email, Epstein wrote to Maxwell: "I want you to realize that that dog that hasn't barked is Trump." He further noted that an unnamed victim "spent hours at my house with him, he has never once been mentioned," to which Maxwell responded, "I have been thinking about that..."
The House Oversight Committee Democrats stated these communications "raise serious questions about Donald Trump and his knowledge of Epstein's horrific crimes."
Another email to Wolff from January 31, 2019, shows Epstein writing: "Trump said he asked me to resign, never a member ever... of course he knew about the girls as he asked ghislaine to stop."
It's important to note that Trump has not been charged with any criminal wrongdoing related to Epstein or Maxwell.
The White House has responded by accusing Democrats of advancing a "fake narrative" through these email releases. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a statement saying: "The Democrats selectively leaked emails to the liberal media to create a fake narrative to smear President Trump."
