Bhopal Deputy Collector Away, Thieves Steal Cash, Jewellery From Home

Cash amounting to lakhs of rupees, valuable jewelry, and other precious items were stolen from the official residence of a Deputy Collector in Bhopal while the officer was away in Kerala attending to her husband's medical needs.

The burglary occurred in Bhopal's Char Imli locality, considered one of the most secure and prestigious areas in the city, where numerous high-ranking officials including IAS and IPS officers, ministers, and senior bureaucrats reside.

Police reports indicate that Deputy Collector Alka Singh Wamankar, who works at the Revenue Commissioner's office, had traveled to Kerala approximately 15 days ago for her husband's medical treatment. During her absence, the residence remained locked and unoccupied.

Upon her return to Bhopal on Tuesday, she discovered that her home had been broken into and thoroughly ransacked. An inspection of the premises revealed that cash, gold jewelry, and various valuable possessions totaling a substantial amount had been stolen.

Despite conducting forensic examinations and preliminary interrogations of local residents, law enforcement officials have yet to uncover any substantial evidence.

Authorities noted that the absence of CCTV cameras at the residence has hindered the investigation process. "We are currently reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding residences and streets in the Char Imli area. Several suspects have been taken into custody for questioning, and we are making concerted efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators," stated officials from the Habibganj Police Station.

This incident marks the second high-profile theft in this area within a short timeframe. Recently, two unidentified motorcycle-riding individuals snatched the mobile phone of Madhya Pradesh Police Inspector General (Intelligence) while he was taking a walk with his spouse.
