Bhopal Model's Death Investigation: Partner Charged Under Love Jihad Law After Pregnancy Complication

Following the tragic demise of 27-year-old model and social media influencer Khushboo Ahirwar, commonly known as 'Diamond Girl', police have filed an FIR against her live-in partner, Qasim Hussain, based on family testimonies.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Adityaraj Singh confirmed that charges were registered Tuesday night under provisions related to assault, the Madhya Pradesh Religious Freedom Act (widely known as the 'Love Jihad' law), and the SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The investigation has been transferred to Chhola police station, which will examine all aspects, including allegations of coercion, assault, and forced religious conversion.

Officials reported that Qasim and Khushboo were traveling back to Bhopal from Ujjain on Monday morning when Khushboo's condition deteriorated aboard a bus near Bhainsakhedi on Indore Road. Qasim transported her to a nearby private hospital and allegedly fled after doctors pronounced her deceased. He was subsequently apprehended.

The conclusive postmortem findings revealed that Khushboo was pregnant when she died. Medical examiners determined the immediate cause of death was a ruptured fallopian tube resulting in internal hemorrhage - a pregnancy-related complication. Officials emphasized that evidence of assault has not been established.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Mayur Khandelwal stated, "The cause of death is complications arising from pregnancy. There are no visible injuries on the body. The viscera has been preserved for forensic testing to determine whether the rupture was natural or externally induced."

Police indicated these marks were at least one year old, suggesting Khushboo had previously experienced self-harm or psychological distress.

Khushboo's relatives, however, remain skeptical of the medical explanation. They have accused Qasim of murder, claiming he refused marriage after promising to wed her. "Khushboo wanted to marry Qasim, but he kept postponing. When she insisted on marriage, he killed her," stated Lakshmi Ahirwar, Khushboo's mother.

Family members alleged they discovered bruising on Khushboo's body, suggesting she had been physically abused before her death. They further accused Qasim of deceiving her regarding marriage and religious matters.

According to police sources, Khushboo and Qasim had maintained a live-in relationship for over 18 months, sharing accommodation in Bhopal. Qasim, who operates a cafe in the city, originally hails from Ujjain.

Known by her Instagram handle @DiamondGirl, Khushboo was a recognized figure in Bhopal's modeling community, with a substantial social media following. A college dropout from Vidisha, she had been living independently in the city, securing small brand collaborations and modeling assignments.

The application of the Madhya Pradesh Religious Freedom Act, 2021, commonly referred to as the 'Love Jihad' law, has introduced a political element to the case. This legislation criminalizes religious conversion through coercion, deception, or marriage and imposes severe penalties.

Recent data presented in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly reveals concerning enforcement patterns. Between January 1, 2020, and July 15, 2025, authorities registered 283 cases under this law. Among these, 197 cases (approximately 70%) remain unresolved in courts. Of the 86 concluded cases, 50 resulted in acquittals, only 7 in convictions, and one case ended with mutual compromise.
