New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level security meeting at his residence on Wednesday evening, two days after a devastating explosion near Delhi's Red Fort killed nine people and injured over a dozen others. Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh joined the Prime Minister at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg for the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting to evaluate the situation following the blast.
After returning from a two-day diplomatic visit to Bhutan, Prime Minister Modi proceeded directly from the airport to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital in central Delhi to meet with those injured in Monday's explosion.
The Prime Minister shared on social media: "Went to LNJP Hospital and met those injured during the blast in Delhi. Praying for everyone's quick recovery. Those behind the conspiracy will be brought to justice!"
During his hospital visit, doctors and security officials briefed the Prime Minister on the victims' conditions.
The explosion occurred near the Lal Quila Metro Station on Monday evening when a Hyundai i20 car detonated while in slow-moving traffic, resulting in at least nine fatalities and nearly two dozen injuries.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs transferred the investigation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), citing evidence suggesting a terror plot. The NIA has assembled an investigative team led by senior officers of Superintendent of Police rank and above.
According to sources, a Jaish-e-Mohammed-supported module had planned multiple coordinated attacks across Delhi, Gurugram, and Faridabad, drawing inspiration from the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
The suspects allegedly prepared approximately 200 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) intended for widespread deployment. Their potential targets reportedly included prominent locations such as the Red Fort, India Gate, the Constitution Club, the Gauri Shankar Temple, major railway stations, and shopping malls throughout India.
Officials believe the group's objective was to incite communal tensions by targeting religious and public landmarks.
