Adani Ports Commits To Disclose Nature-Related Risks And Opportunities

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) announced on Wednesday that it has become the first Integrated Transport Utility in India to adopt the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework. This milestone establishes a new standard for nature-positive infrastructure development in the country.

By embracing this framework, APSEZ joins an exclusive group of global port operators that champion biodiversity conservation, reinforcing its dedication to protecting marine ecosystems through science-based and transparent environmental reporting practices.

As a TNFD adopter, the company has committed to implementing TNFD-aligned reporting that covers nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities.

The TNFD represents a global, science-based initiative established by a coalition including the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and Global Canopy. Its purpose is to guide organizations in identifying, assessing, managing, and disclosing their interactions with nature and associated risks and opportunities.

Ashwani Gupta, Whole-Time Director and CEO of APSEZ, stated: "We firmly believe responsible business practices drive long-term success. Our adoption of the TNFD framework demonstrates support for nature-related corporate reporting at COP30. We see nature-related issues as a strategic risk management priority. The TNFD framework provides robust support for integrating nature into our decision-making processes and enhancing our contribution to biodiversity conservation."

This initiative further strengthens APSEZ's commitment to nature-positive business practices and positions the company as a leader in sustainable maritime logistics.

As part of this commitment, Adani Ports will enhance its disclosure standards to ensure alignment with TNFD recommendations in its corporate reporting, beginning in fiscal year 2026.

The company has already established climate risk assessment and disclosure practices that align with globally recognized frameworks. APSEZ continues to set standards in environmental stewardship, having afforested over 4,200 hectares of mangroves and actively conserving an additional 3,000 hectares, making it the largest private sector contributor to mangrove ecosystem restoration in India.

This new initiative forms a key component of APSEZ's broader ESG strategy and reflects a proactive approach to assessing and addressing nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities.

The company operates an extensive ecosystem of 15 strategically located ports and terminals across India's western, southern, and eastern coasts, complemented by a diversified marine fleet of 127 vessels.
