New Delhi:
A female traveler from Thailand was apprehended at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport after she falsely presented herself as an officer from the National Investigation Agency (NIA). According to customs officials, she was found in possession of 11.350 kilograms of hydroponic weed.
The individual, who had traveled on flight AI-2335 from Bangkok, had been under observation by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) following routine profiling procedures.
During the investigation, the woman entered an airport restroom where she changed into a grey jacket displaying "National Investigation Agency (NIA)" text and the national emblem. Officials reported that she attempted to utilize this disguise to pass through the green channel and avoid inspection.
Despite her efforts, AIU officers intercepted her before she could exit the area. When her luggage underwent X-ray scanning, suspicious contents were identified.
Upon questioning, the woman claimed NIA officer status and refused to allow inspection of her luggage. She presented an identification card that was subsequently determined to be counterfeit.
A thorough examination of her possessions revealed 20 packets of hydroponic weed with a combined weight of 11.350 kilograms. The illegal substances were concealed in small cloth bags that also featured the NIA name and emblem.
The woman has been detained under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. An investigation into the matter continues.
