Shahin Shahid, a medical doctor, was allegedly working covertly to establish the women's wing of Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in India.
New Delhi authorities have revealed that Shahid, who appeared to be an ordinary professional, was operating secretly beneath the notice of her colleagues and associates.
The Lucknow resident was apprehended in connection with a significant explosives discovery in Faridabad, Haryana, near the Delhi border.
A professor from Haryana's Al-Falah University, located approximately 45 kilometers from Delhi, shared with NDTV that recent events have illuminated Shahid's suspicious activities.
"Shahid disregarded discipline protocols. She would depart without notifying anyone," stated the professor, who requested anonymity.
"Numerous individuals visited her at the college. Her conduct was frequently unusual. Complaints regarding her behavior had been submitted to management," the professor claimed.
The professor confirmed they will provide complete cooperation with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which has assumed responsibility for the investigation.
Many university staff members have called for thorough examination of Shahid's personal files and employment history.
"We never suspected her involvement in such activities," the professor added.
According to authorities, Shahid was appointed to oversee the Indian branch of JeM's women's division, Jamaat ul-Mominaat, which is headed by Sadia Azhar, sister of JeM founder Masood Azhar, in Pakistan.
Investigations revealed Shaheen maintained contact with Kashmiri doctor Muzammil Ganaie, also known as Musaib, who worked at the same university. Ganaie was arrested following the discovery of 2,900 kg of explosives and inflammable materials in his two rented accommodations in Faridabad.
Investigators discovered that a vehicle containing an assault rifle, pistol, and ammunition belonged to Shahid. The Maruti Suzuki Swift with Faridabad license plate HR 51 was searched after police interrogated Ganaie.
These findings are now being investigated in connection with yesterday's suicide bombing near Delhi's Red Fort, which resulted in nine fatalities.
