Dr Umar Mohammad is believed to be the suicide bomber responsible for the incident.
Following a devastating car explosion near Delhi's Red Fort that claimed nine lives and injured more than a dozen people, initial images of the suspect—the driver of the exploded vehicle—have now surfaced.
Authorities suspect Dr Umar Mohammad was the suicide bomber who operated the white Hyundai i20 that detonated near the Red Fort on Monday evening. Security forces have detained his mother and brothers in Jammu and Kashmir for interrogation.
Surveillance footage reveals the car remained parked near the Red Fort for three hours with the driver inside, never exiting the vehicle. When it finally moved, the car proceeded toward the traffic signal near the Metro Station before exploding at approximately 6:52 pm.
Born in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, on February 24, 1989, Umar Mohammad worked as a physician at Al Falah Medical College in Faridabad. He reportedly maintained close connections with Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather and Dr Mujammil Shakil, two doctors arrested Monday during investigations into a newly discovered "white collar" terror network by Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana police teams.
Investigators believe Umar fled Faridabad after learning about his associates' arrests and the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives in recent days. Sources indicate he "panicked" and triggered the explosion near Red Fort, a 17th-century Mughal monument that ranks among the nation's most visited tourist attractions.
"Umar Mohammad and his associates utilized Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO) to execute the attack. They installed a detonator in the vehicle and carried out the terrorist attack in a busy area near Red Fort," sources explained.

How Delhi Blast Was Executed
CCTV footage and images show the Hyundai i20 entering Delhi via the Badarpur border. It traveled to Old Delhi through the Outer Ring Road. The vehicle—displaying license plate HR 26CE7674—was stationed in the parking area near Red Fort for over three hours, entering at 3:19 pm and departing around 6:30 pm, according to sources.
Investigations indicate the car changed ownership multiple times. Sources report that a Gurugram resident named Salman sold the car to an individual named Devender in Okhla in March 2025. Subsequently, Devender transferred it to someone from Ambala.
From Ambala, the vehicle made its way to Pulwama, where connections between Aamir, Tariq, and Umar Rashid were established.
Investigations revealed that Aamir provided the car to Umar Mohammad.
Both Aamir and Tariq are currently being interrogated by Delhi Police.
One image shows Aamir holding the car key, likely photographed after acquiring the vehicle.
Authorities are investigating Umar Mohammad's relationship with doctors arrested from Faridabad in recent days. Adeel Ahmad Rather, a physician at Anantnag's Government Medical College (GMC), was apprehended at a hospital in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on November 6 after security cameras captured him placing posters supporting the Jaish-e-Mohammed organization in Srinagar.
Earlier this week, police searched GMC Anantnag and discovered an AK-47 rifle with ammunition in Adil's locker. He faces charges under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The searches led to the recovery of 2,900 kg of explosives and weapons in Faridabad—which Adil allegedly stored with another doctor, Muzammil Shakeel, who was also arrested on November 10.
Dr Shaheen Shahid, a female physician, was arrested as part of the same network as Dr Shakeel. Sources report that a rifle and live ammunition were found in her vehicle.
Dr Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed was arrested by Gujarat ATS for allegedly planning a Ricin terror attack. He reportedly conducted surveillance of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in Lucknow, the ideological mentor of the BJP, and crowded marketplaces in the city.
