The Hyundai i20 car involved in the terror blast near Red Fort entered Delhi from Haryana's Faridabad, according to Delhi Police sources.
The Special Cell of the Delhi Police is conducting CCTV mapping to trace the vehicle's route, which was found to have entered Delhi via the Badarpur border from Faridabad.
Investigators discovered that a suspect named Umar Mohammad, a doctor by profession, was driving the car before the explosion that killed nine people and injured approximately 20 others.
Sources indicated that Umar Mohammad orchestrated the Red Fort attack hastily after authorities arrested two key members of the module – Dr. Mujammil Shakeel and Dr. Adil Rather – and confiscated 2,900 kg of suspected explosives in Faridabad in the days prior.
During their investigation, police determined that Umar Mohammad planned the attack collaboratively with two associates.
According to sources, "Umar Mohammad and his associates utilized Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO) to execute the attack. They positioned a detonator in the car and carried out the terror attack in a crowded area near Red Fort."
Police have traced security camera footage from multiple routes, including from the Badarpur Border to the Sunehri Masjid parking area near Red Fort, and from Outer Ring Road to Kashmere Gate to Red Fort.
The investigation revealed that after entering Delhi through the Badarpur border, the i20 car proceeded to Old Delhi via the Outer Ring Road. The vehicle was recorded passing through the Badarpur toll booth at 8:13 am.
At 8:20 am, the car was spotted at a petrol pump near the Okhla Industrial Area. It subsequently entered the parking area near the Red Fort complex at 3:19 pm and departed at 6:28 pm.
The car remained parked at the Sunehri Masjid parking area near Red Fort for nearly three hours, during which time Umar Mohammad never exited the vehicle, according to sources.
Authorities suspect that Umar Mohammad was either waiting for someone or awaiting further instructions. However, he did not meet anyone while in the parking lot.
After nearly three hours, he left the parking area and began driving toward central Delhi. The explosion occurred when the vehicle was near a traffic light in the vicinity of Red Fort.
Sources have suggested that the target could have been anywhere in central Delhi, as the car was observed moving from Red Fort toward the city center.
They added, "Based on footage from various locations, approximately 13 individuals have come under suspicion and are being questioned."
The investigation revealed that Umar Mohammad owned the car involved in the blast. Initial findings indicate that the vehicle changed ownership multiple times before the attack. According to preliminary statements, the car was first sold to an individual named Aamir, then transferred to Tariq, who was detained by Jammu and Kashmir police in Pulwama.
Eventually, the car was transferred to Umar. Officials anticipate that clearer details will emerge by Tuesday afternoon as interrogations continue.
A comprehensive multi-agency investigation is currently underway, jointly led by the Delhi Police, J&K Police, NIA, NSG, Intelligence Bureau, UP ATS, Haryana Police, Gujarat Police, and forensic teams to investigate the new white-collar terror module suspected to be linked with the Jaish-e-Mohammad terror organization.
