Angry Over Being Called A 'Thief', Girl, 13, Drowns 2 Minor Cousins

Police detained a 13-year-old girl following the investigation into the drowning of her two young cousins.

In a tragic incident from Chhattisgarh, two young siblings lost their lives after allegedly being pushed into a well by their 13-year-old female cousin. The teenager reportedly acted out of anger after being called a "thief" by one of the victims in a village within the Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai district.

The devastating event occurred on Sunday in Jhuranadi village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Chhuikhadan police station. Authorities have since taken the minor suspect into custody.

The victims have been identified as 4-year-old Karan Verma and his 2-year-old sister Vaishali, children of local resident Gajanand Verma.

According to investigators, the detained girl confessed that she became enraged when Karan repeatedly called her a "chor" (thief). In a moment of intense anger, the teenager pushed both Karan and his younger sister into a well located in a vegetable garden within the village.

When the parents, Gajanand Verma and his wife, couldn't locate their children, they initiated a search with the help of fellow villagers. During this desperate effort, villagers discovered a child's body floating in a well. Upon retrieval, the body was identified as that of little Vaishali.

Suspecting that the second child might also be in the same water body, villagers drained the well using a motor pump, which led to the recovery of Karan's body.

Based on a complaint filed by the grieving father, police have registered a case under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Chhuikhadan police station.

During the subsequent investigation, authorities detained the 13-year-old cousin of the victims, who admitted to pushing the children into the well. Following her confession, the teenager was transferred to a juvenile home.
