Elderly Couple Petitions Supreme Court to Remove Dangerous Stray Dog That Attacked 6 People in 3 Months

An elderly couple has approached the Supreme Court with a petition requesting the removal of a problematic stray dog from their neighborhood, following the municipal authority's failure to address numerous complaints about the animal attacking residents.

In her petition, 70-year-old Sunita Agarwal detailed that the canine has attacked six individuals in the Maharana Pratap Bagh area within a three-month period, with victims ranging from an 8-year-old child to a 70-year-old senior citizen. Although municipal officials captured the dog on October 22, they released it after just eight days. Following its release, the dog proceeded to bite two more people on October 31 and November 3.

Among the victims was a young boy named Vaidik who sustained injuries while playing outside his residence. The bite on his leg caused significant bleeding, and according to his mother Riddhi, the traumatized child has not ventured outdoors in the past month. Another victim, Sonam Chaudhary, was riding her scooter when the dog attacked her, inflicting bites on two areas of her leg.

Saurabh Gandhi, who serves as the president of the Maharana Pratap Bagh resident association, confirmed that multiple complaints had been lodged through both the corporation's helpline and the 311 application.

The petition emphasizes that the persistent threat of dog attacks has essentially prevented elderly residents from taking their morning walks and children from playing outside. The petitioners are seeking the Supreme Court's intervention to order the capture and removal of the aggressive dog from their community.
