In Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh, a devastating collision between a car and truck on Monday evening resulted in six fatalities and two serious injuries.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 10 pm on a bridge spanning the Kalyani river near Kutlupur village within the Deva police station jurisdiction. All deceased victims were traveling in the car and were residents of Fatehpur town.

The collision was extremely violent, leaving the car—which appeared new and lacked license plates—severely damaged. Authorities needed to deploy a crane to clear the wreckage from the roadway.

Police responded promptly to reports of the accident, transporting the injured first to a nearby community health center before transferring them to the district hospital.

District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi, who arrived at the scene alongside Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya, confirmed: "Six people died in the crash and the two who suffered serious injuries have been hospitalized." Initial investigation suggested that the car had entered the truck's lane, triggering the collision.

Superintendent Vijayvargiya provided additional details: "There were eight passengers in the car. Five men and one woman have died. Two others are injured." He explained that the passengers had rented the vehicle for an out-of-town trip and were returning to Fatehpur when the tragedy occurred.

Authorities were still working to identify the victims at the time of reporting.

Eyewitnesses claimed the truck was traveling at excessive speed, with the driver apparently losing control upon spotting the approaching car, resulting in the deadly impact. Police have seized the truck as part of their investigation.

The accident caused significant traffic disruption on the bridge.

Additional Superintendent of Police, North, Vikas Chandra Tripathi, indicated that preliminary findings suggest both vehicles were exceeding safe speeds at the time of the crash.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and authorities noted that the truck driver fled the scene and remains at large.
