DRI Seizes Hydroponic Weed Worth Rs 42 Crore at Mumbai Airport in Major Drug Bust

Mumbai's DRI officials intercepted 42.34 kg of hydroponic weed worth Rs 42 crore from two Bangkok passengers at CSMIA, following a previous Rs 47 crore cocaine seizure, totaling over Rs 90 crore in narcotics confiscated within three days as authorities continue investigating the international smuggling network.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 42.34 kilograms of hydroponic weed (cultivated without soil) valued at Rs 42 crore from two passengers who had arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) from Bangkok, an official reported on Monday.

The operation was executed on Sunday following specific intelligence information, the official added.

"The hydroponic weed was concealed within 21 noodles and biscuit packets, which were discovered during the inspection of the passengers' baggage. We confiscated 42.34 kilograms of hydroponic weed with an estimated value of Rs 42 crore. The individuals have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act," stated the official.

Previously on Friday, the DRI's Mumbai zonal unit had apprehended five individuals allegedly possessing 4.7 kilograms of cocaine worth Rs 47 crore.

"In the past three days, drugs valued at more than Rs 90 crore have been intercepted. Investigation into the broader smuggling network continues," the official confirmed.
