52 Students Hospitalized After Food Poisoning Incident at Telangana Welfare Hostel: Investigation Ordered

Over 50 students at a state-run boys' welfare hostel in Telangana's Jogulamba Gadwal district were hospitalized with food poisoning symptoms after consuming dinner. Though most have been discharged and all are reported stable, the Telangana Human Rights Commission has ordered an investigation into the incident, with a comprehensive report due by November 24.

The students of the welfare hostel in Dharmavaram were taken to a government hospital following the incident.

Officials reported that 52 students from a state-run welfare hostel for boys in Telangana's Jogulamba Gadwal district were hospitalized after experiencing vomiting and stomach pain following their Friday night dinner.

The affected students from the hostel in Dharmavaram, Itikyala mandal, received treatment at a government hospital. According to a statement released Saturday, doctors confirmed that all students were clinically stable.

A district health official stated that 32 students have been discharged, while the remaining students are safe and remain under observation.

"We are also running a camp in the hostel," the official added.

The students who fell ill reported that their Friday dinner consisted of sambar, rice, and cabbage curry, after which they developed stomach pain and vomiting.

In response to the incident, the Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC), led by former High Court judge Justice Shameem Akther, has taken notice of media reports about the students' illness. The commission has directed the state's Chief Secretary to conduct an investigation and submit a comprehensive report by November 24, according to an official release.
