An IndiGo flight en route from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai following a hoax bomb threat that referenced a "1984 Madras airport-style blast." The airline confirmed that all necessary security protocols were implemented at Mumbai airport to ensure passenger safety while minimizing disruption.
IndiGo released a statement saying, "A security threat was received for IndiGo flight 6E 68 operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad on 1st November 2025. The aircraft was promptly diverted to Mumbai. In accordance with established protocol, we immediately notified relevant authorities and fully cooperated with them in conducting comprehensive security checks before clearing the aircraft for further operations."
According to aviation tracking service flightradar24, the flight was originally scheduled to arrive in Hyderabad at 9:10 am. However, after being diverted to Mumbai for security checks following the threat, the flight eventually departed and reached its final destination in Hyderabad around 4:00 pm.
The airline further stated, "We prioritized passenger comfort by offering refreshments and providing regular updates throughout the delay. As always, the safety and security of our customers, crew and aircraft remain our paramount concerns."
Sources within IndiGo revealed that the threatening email specifically warned of a "1984 Madras Airport-style blast." This reference pertains to the infamous Meenambakkam bomb blast, a terrorist attack that occurred at Chennai airport (formerly known as Madras airport) on August 2, 1984, resulting in 33 fatalities. The historical attack was carried out by the Sri Lankan separatist organization known as the Tamil Eelam Army.
