Chennai ED Office Bomb Threat Confirmed as Hoax After Thorough Security Sweep

The Chennai Police initiated an extensive security operation Thursday morning following a bomb threat email directed to the Director General of Police (DGP)'s office. The threat specifically targeted the Enforcement Directorate (ED)'s Southern Regional Office located at Shastri Bhavan on Haddows Road. After a thorough inspection, authorities confirmed the threat was a hoax, with no suspicious objects discovered.

A specialized team comprising Chennai Police officials, bomb squad experts, and canine units arrived at the ED premises approximately 8:40 am, as reported by officials familiar with the matter.

Upon arrival, the team notified the security personnel on duty about an email from an unknown sender that claimed a bomb had been placed inside the ED office, specifically on the third floor of the third block in B Wing.

Law enforcement promptly forwarded the threatening communication to the appropriate officials. As a precautionary safety measure, ED personnel were temporarily prevented from entering the building while security teams conducted a comprehensive examination of the premises.

The Anti-Sabotage Check (ASC) team commenced their detailed inspection around 10:30 am, with senior ED officials present, including the Special Director for the Southern Region and the Additional Director, CEZO-I. The meticulous search operation continued for approximately one hour until 11:30 am, during which every section and area of the office underwent thorough examination.

Following the completion of their inspection, police officials confirmed that no suspicious or dangerous materials, including any components that could be used in improvised explosive devices, were discovered within the ED office.

Authorities have now initiated an investigation to determine the origin of the threatening email and to identify the sender. Police officials have reassured the public that appropriate security protocols remain active and that the premises have been secured, allowing normal operations to resume.
