New Delhi:
Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan has firmly denied rumors about any discord with SP president Akhilesh Yadav, emphasizing their enduring political and personal connection that spans nearly 45 years.
During a revealing interview with IANS, Azam Khan stated, "Akhilesh Yadav visited me multiple times while I was incarcerated. I have maintained a 45-year relationship with this family. Such deep connections don't simply dissolve."
Khan rejected media narratives suggesting estrangement, explaining that these rumors were fabricated by outsiders and further propagated by certain media outlets.
"These stories were created by the media. You portrayed our destruction so convincingly that we almost started believing it ourselves," he observed.
The SP veteran, who was detained in Sitapur jail for approximately two years until his September release, confirmed that his loyalty and association with the Yadav family remain strong and uncompromised.
"Relationships don't deteriorate because of a single meeting or its absence," he remarked.
In a notable cross-party gesture, Azam Khan expressed gratitude to BSP leader Mayawati for condemning controversial statements made by Hindu Yuva Vahini leader and former BJP MLA Raghavendra Singh, who allegedly encouraged Hindu youth to "bring Muslim girls."
Regarding this issue, Khan commented, "I appreciate her statements. However, such matters are best ignored, as responding only provides attention to those with inappropriate intentions."
Reflecting on his incarceration and political challenges, the seasoned politician suggested his experiences contain valuable lessons.
"Numerous books will document my hardships," he stated, highlighting the legal battles, humiliation, and emotional burden he endured.
"This prison cell was previously my fate, but not this occasion. I am myself a book... many books accompany me," he added.
Khan, however, dismissed any intention of retribution should SP regain power. "We don't seek revenge. If we replicate their actions, what distinction would remain between us?"
With the INDIA alliance developing its future strategies, Azam Khan's reaffirmation of his allegiance to Akhilesh Yadav indicates unity within the SP. It suggests the party's prominent Muslim representative is focused on a revitalized political phase ahead of the crucial UP 2027 assembly elections.
