Poll Body Launches Helpline To Clear Voters' Doubts Ahead Of SIR In Bengal

The Election Commission has activated the voter helpline 1950 to ensure transparency during West Bengal's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, an official announced.

Kolkata:

The Election Commission (EC) has launched the voter helpline 1950 to maintain transparency and address citizens' concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, according to an official statement.

Residents can now utilize this helpline along with various state and district-level services to ask questions and file complaints related to electoral roll issues.

The official clarified on Wednesday that "The SIR is a routine project under the commission's supervision. Similar exercises have been conducted in other states, including Bihar, and no legitimate voter's name will be excluded."

To enhance voter confidence, the Election Commission has implemented multiple assistance channels.

"The National Contact Centre now serves as a central helpline for all states and Union territories, operating daily from 8 am to 8 pm on the toll-free number 1800-11-1950," the official explained, adding that trained staff are available to assist citizens with electoral matters.

The commission encourages all eligible voters to utilize the 1950 helpline and other services to obtain information, provide feedback, or report grievances, highlighting its dedication to a transparent and inclusive electoral process.

Furthermore, each state and district has been directed to establish dedicated contact centers offering prompt support in local languages. All inquiries and complaints are being documented and monitored through the National Grievance Service portal.

"Citizens can also directly connect with their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) through the ECINET platform, which facilitates seamless communication with election officials," the official stated.

The ECINET mobile application provides voters with additional means to connect with officials. The commission has instructed all CEOs, DEOs, and EROs to ensure complaints are addressed and resolved within 48 hours.

The Election Commission noted that these new services complement existing complaint resolution mechanisms, and voters may alternatively email their concerns to complaints@eci.gov.in if they prefer.
