Senior Haryana government official Anil Vij has recently removed the term 'minister' from his X profile, changing it from 'Anil Vij Minister Haryana, India' to 'Anil Vij Ambala Cantt Haryana, India' on Tuesday. The 72-year-old BJP leader, who commands a following of more than 800,000 on X, explained this decision as part of his strategy to enhance his social media presence based on his personal identity rather than his official position.
"I aim to increase my social media presence as Anil Vij, not as a minister. I was active on these platforms long before assuming ministerial responsibilities. You won't find the title 'minister' on my Facebook profile either," Vij explained to PTI on Thursday.
"People recognize me simply as Anil Vij. The content I share and my audience should connect with me based on who I am, not my ministerial position. My identity doesn't depend on any official designation," he added.
Vij, who oversees Energy, Transport and Labor departments in the Haryana government, clarified that this profile update has no connection to his recent claims about a "parallel" BJP unit operating in his home constituency of Ambala Cantonment.
On September 12, the seven-term MLA stirred controversy by posting on X that certain individuals were running a "parallel" BJP organization in Ambala Cantonment with support from high-ranking party leaders. In that post, he also requested public input on handling these "detractors" in the comments section.
When questioned about the timing of his profile update, Vij mentioned that he had previously made a similar change to his Facebook page.
"I decided to maintain consistency by identifying simply as Anil Vij on my X handle as well," he explained.
