The Odisha Congress declared that the current state administration has devolved into merely a collection of unfulfilled promises.
Bhubaneswar:
On Wednesday, the opposition Congress announced plans to introduce a No-Confidence Motion against the BJP-led state government during the upcoming monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly, which begins Thursday.
Following a meeting of Congress MLAs prior to the assembly session, CLP leader Rama Chandra Kadam informed the media: "The state government has failed to address critical issues including women's safety, law and order maintenance, challenges faced by farmers, dalits, tribals and OBCs. Therefore, we've decided to bring a no-confidence motion against this state government in the current assembly session."
Mr Kadam criticized the BJP-led government, stating that the administration has become nothing more than empty promises. He emphasized that the ruling party has failed to meet public expectations.
The Congress CLP leader also revealed that the opposition party will highlight numerous issues including violence against women, unemployment, increasing evictions in the name of industrial development, fertilizer shortages and black market activities, amendments to the SC/ST act, and other pressing matters.
The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee Bhakta Charan Das referenced recent incidents of violence against women in Gopalpur, Balasore, Balanga, Brahmagiri, and other locations.
He also addressed the brutal murder of women traffic constable Subhamitra Sahoo by a fellow constable in Bhubaneswar, challenging the competence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also oversees the state home department portfolio, and the Commissionerate police.
Mr Das mentioned that the CLP had discussions regarding violence against women, the fertilizer crisis, farmers' challenges, corruption and neglect in the education sector, failures in providing safe drinking water, and reluctance to announce students' union elections.
Notably, the OPCC president had previously called on the BJD, Odisha's principal opposition party, to introduce a no-confidence motion against the BJP government during the Monsoon Session. The congress party currently holds 14 seats in the state assembly.
